lived a King of elephants named Gajendra. He ruled all other elephants in the herd. Gajendra , in his previous birth was a King named Indrayumna . He was a great devotee of Lord vishnu. One day, Agastya, a great sage came to visit the King , he did not welcome the sage with respect nor he did not rise up to greet him .The engraged Agastya cursed the
king to become an elephant and he will be wandering in the jungle ...
Thus the king became the Gajendra.
One day when Gajendra and all his herd proceeded to a river to take bath . Suddenly a crocodile which was living in that river caught hold of Gajendra's leg. Gajendra couldn't get away from crocodile and all its friends efforts to rescue him failed. The crocodile was more stronger than all the elephants put together.
The elephant and the crocodile struggled for a thousand years ..the elephant lost so much of blood and it began to get tired , although the crocodile's strength was still strong ..
Gajendra couldn't do anything and atlast he realised that only God can help him so he started to call out Lord Vishnu for help. Lord heard Gajendra crying for help and appeared on his Garuda Vahana. Pleased with Gajendra ,Lord Vishnu killed the crocodile with the Sudarshana Chakra and freed Gajendra. Gajendra offered Lord Vishnu a lotus and thanked him for saving his life.
The crocodile in his previous life was a King named HuHu in the Gandarva planet. Once, while enjoying himself in the water, he pulled the leg of a sage. The engraged sage cursed the king to become a crocodile.And he said that he will be freed by Lord Vishnu.
